Why is English Not the Official Language of the Olympic Games?

Sport (or physical sports) is any form of generally competitive physical activity that, through organised or casual competition, attempt to use, develop or increase physical prowess and abilities while providing amusement to competitors, and at times, spectators as well. In the US alone, there is estimated to be nearly $75 billion spent each year on professional and recreational sports and equipment, with an additional amount going to schools, colleges and other institutions for training and sports related research. These sports can be divided further into contact sports such as soccer, softball, basketball, baseball and football, lacrosse, cricket, sailing, track and field, softball, rugby, skiing and Australian Football.

Professional sports are particularly well-known for their high-profile tournaments and championships, such as the Olympic Games, World Cup, and the Super Bowl. Many international sporting organisations contract out the running of their events to third-party companies who in turn have set up sites all over the world, particularly in developed and developing countries, where they can promote their products and promote their respective teams, sponsors and players. As well as organising sporting events, these companies also take on the task of marketing them and are able to exert considerable influence on the sporting public, especially through their sporting association and related products and services. There are many different types of marketing strategies employed by these companies including advertising, public relations and marketing, merchandising, endorsements, licensing, signage, public relations and branding.

The Olympic Games is the most popular and longest running sporting event, and the basis of the games was originally founded to ensure the inclusion of under privileged sportsmen and sportswomen of all nations. The Olympic Games is an excellent platform for sportsmen and sportswomen to show off their talents and ability, as well as raise the profile of their respective sport, and showcase new sports technology, equipment and competitions. It also allows for fanatics from all parts of the globe to get together, cheer for their favourite teams and athletes and enjoy the unique atmosphere that an Olympic Games brings. International sportshow organisations host a wide range of summer Olympics, which includes beach volleyball, basketball, softball, canoeing, track and field, wrestling, rowing, water polo and the Olympic Games swimming events.

Some of the most popular sports in the USA include football, baseball, basketball, hockey, volleyball, tennis, golf, hockey, softball, soccer, basketball and softball. America is home to some of the best and most successful athletes, including football legends, actor Jack Nicholson, tennis star Andre Agassi, figure skating champion Kimmo, divers Jane Wie and John Mcanroe and even NASCAR driver Mark Martin. Tennis remains the most popular winter sports in America, with more than thirteen million people participating in the sport according to the US Department of Sports and Exercise. In fact, the United States has the largest number of registered players of any country in the world, with over five hundred million people regularly participating in the sport. This makes it one of the biggest-budget sports in America.

With an estimated four hundred million people regularly participating in the different sports, America is one of the richest countries in the world when it comes to sports. Baseball, football and basketball each generate billions of dollars in revenue each year, making it the third largest industry in the world in terms of economic output. Soccer, the most popular American sport, is also incredibly popular. More Americans regularly attend or watch a baseball game than any other sport in the world. Similarly, the Olympic Games is a huge draw, bringing millions of spectators together to watch the different sports.

The popularity of the different sports, their different sports names and their different nuances of play to make the competition much more interesting to watch. While English is not the official language of the Olympic Games, the term “Olympic” is universally understood, which lends a degree of professionalism to the event. As such, the competition in the Olympic Games is much tighter, with fans placing their utmost effort in trying to represent their country in the best possible way. Despite being a very competitive field, there is room for slight underdog victory; as long as a country has enough financial resources and the will to prove they are the best, they can go all the way to the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
