Promote Sportsmanship in Children

The word “sports” literally means “pleasure of sports”. These fill the emotional need for physical activity, play and competition amongst human beings. All sports are competitive. This is the main difference between leisure, recreation or social activity. Sports can develop healthy life skills as a venue for competition.

As a recreational activity, sports may be indoor or outdoor, requiring quick thinking, coordinated movements, physical strength and endurance. Most sports involve sprinting, jumping, throwing, kicking, wrestling, playing sports such as basketball, soccer etc. Also, most sports involve contact sports like boxing, rugby, hockey, rugby union, motorball etc. Indoor sports may include indoor sports such as badminton, bowling, tennis and softball.

Sports are organized around teams, coaches, referees, equipment, rules, field and court location and time. Sports involve many other people in competitions. Grownups, kids and teenagers are usually involved in casual games and team sports. A few adults may participate in professional sports to compete professionally or just to enjoy competition.

Sportsmanship is important in all sports. Players should always respect the opponent and refrain from physical aggression. Sportsmanship includes proper body mechanics in striking a ball or an opponent and sportsmanship with fellow sportsmen. All players should practice sportsmanship is encouraged among children.

Parents are encouraged to take their kids to play sports. This will enhance their general development along with the sportsmanship skills. It is never too early to start a child’s interests in sports. For instance, while growing up, a baseball player should learn the fundamental fundamentals such as hitting, throwing and fielding.

Sports help build confidence and individual pride in people. Confidence and pride can be developed through participation in sports. Most people have been entertained by sports since they were young. Sports provide enjoyment and excitement for millions of people throughout the world. Sports can be enjoyed by people of all ages and gender.

Kids should be encouraged and guided to play sports even if they do not enjoy it. They can benefit in so many ways, for example, developing social interaction skills and improving their self-esteem. A healthy attitude towards life is necessary for kids to have a healthy lifestyle. Sports also promote family bonding and discipline. Parents should teach their kids to be aware of their health risks when playing sports. However, parents should also teach their kids the importance of sportsmanship.

Some kids may have problems in areas such as mathematics or science when playing sports. These children should be taught to apply their learning in different settings such as the classroom, the playground or in the work place. For instance, it may be helpful for children who excel in science to play sports such as football, basketball, baseball and softball. These sports teach them to solve problems such as working with measurements and solving for numerical data, solving for unknown factors and working under pressure.

As parents, it is our responsibility to teach our children to develop sportsmanship as well as sportsmanship within themselves. It is our duty to teach our kids to respect other people, to appreciate the game and to know how to win. We can achieve this by making them understand the importance of sport in their life and how being a good sportsman can benefit them. We must teach them to be winners so that they can achieve success and happiness in life. With sports, they can realize their potential and their dreams and live life to the fullest.
